About Mark Lopez
"Color is the keyboard, the eyes are the hammers, the soul is the piano with many strings. The artist is the hand which plays, touching one key or another, to cause vibrations in the soul." - Wassily Kandinsky My paintings reflect moments which transcend reality; whether spiritually, emotionally, or physically. Through vivid dreamscapes and a touch of surrealism, I explore the unity between dreams, nature, and the human form. My artwork embodies a deep love for mountainous adventure, international travel, and explorations of the unknown. It also serves as a diary of intense experiences, weaving a patchwork between reality and the sub-conscious. I specialize in oil and acrylic painting and pastel illustration, honed from my studies...

The Awakening follows our character in the moments just before he rises from a deep sleep. The past months have been extremely rough and he feels depression sinking in. He dreams of birds flying into his room and carrying him away from his worries: "Lift me up from under what was covering the better part of me." This is the sister piece of a screen-print of the same title, which won the cover of Foothills Magazine in Denver
